National Poetry Writing Month 2017, Day 27

My Day 27 poem for National Poetry Writing Month uses the prompt on Napowrimo.net—to write a poem exploring the sense of taste. Since my Day 26 was a long-ish poem, I wanted to make my Day 27 poem short—hence the haiku…

New rain haiku

The cloudburst has come
the earthy smell of new rain
wafts between the drops…

  1. Nice haiku. Did you know that there’s a word for “the earthy smell of new rain”? It’s petrichor. I learned it from another poet and it’s now one of my favorite words because it is a favorite scent that reminds me of southern California.
