Alphabet Poem #18

The R poem.

Red blankets to soothe the ache of missing her

Today I swapped red for green
a vibrant new color to compensate
for the unexpected empty space

This blanket will be warmer in her absence
than the one she left behind

Maybe I am taking a shot in the dark
something has to kill this ache
that renders me weak

Color may not change anything
but it may give me hope

If I can believe in a tomorrow
where the sun is bright and warm
and anguish fades as the seconds tick
I may get past this yet

When the sun sets in the evening
I will wrap the red blanket around me
In the warmth of a memory
I will sleep
