I just don’t know what to do with myself (a poem)

Today’s poem inspired by a line of dialogue from an episode of Fringe.

‘You can’t hide from who you are’, she said

I don’t want to hide
I just want to exile him for a while

I know he thinks he’s acting in my best interests
but he hesitates
he thinks too much
he doesn’t understand the world he lives in

He misunderstands me

The feeling is mutual—
who is this creature
inhabiting my skin
thinking my thoughts
running my errands

I don’t understand him
so I resist

He is stubborn
(just like me)
Some days, I don’t know what to do with him

So I resist

When she tells me I can’t hide
I have to smile

I don’t want to hide
I just want to exile him for a while
